THE TEMIMA STUDENT

    Who is a TEMIMA student?

TEMIMA attracts thoughtful, growth-oriented young women from Jewish communities throughout North America and beyond.

Our students are serious about Torah, excited by learning, intellectually curious, and committed to personal growth. They come from diverse backgrounds, schools, and communities, yet share a common desire to deepen their relationship with Hashem, engage meaningfully with Torah, and maximize their year in Israel.

What unites a TEMIMA student is not where she comes from, but where she is going.

She seeks depth without sacrificing warmth, challenge without losing authenticity, and growth without compromise. She wants to spend a transformative year surrounded by peers who inspire one another to become the very best versions of themselves.

What makes TEMIMA different from other seminaries?

TEMIMA was founded on a simple belief:

A young Jewish woman should not have to choose between intellectual depth and personal warmth.

TEMIMA rejects that distinction. Our approach is built upon the principle of wholeness:

    תּוֹרַת ה׳ תְּמִימָה מְשִׁיבַת נָפֶשׁ

"The Torah of Hashem is whole and complete, bringing wholeness to the soul."

We believe Torah forms the whole person. Everything at TEMIMA — from our learning environment and faculty to our leadership opportunities, chessed initiatives, STEM Innovation programming, and connection to Eretz Yisrael — is designed to help students develop into thoughtful, confident, and purposeful Torah women.

    What is TEMIMA's Hashkafa?

TEMIMA is a Torah-centered seminary devoted to cultivating thoughtful young Jewish women who aspire to lives of depth, clarity, connection, and wholeness.

We believe that serious Torah learning, intellectual curiosity, authentic growth, and a deep appreciation for the gift of Eretz Yisrael belong together. Guided by the timeless wisdom of our Mesorah and inspired by the unique perspective of תורת ארץ ישראל, TEMIMA seeks to nurture knowledgeable, grounded, and idealistic young Jewish women devoted to Hashem, Klal Yisrael, and lives of meaning and purpose.

At TEMIMA, Eretz Yisrael is not merely the setting of the seminary experience. It is part of the experience itself.

Through our monthly ימי ארץ ישראל, students study, explore, and, on occasion, journey throughout the Land while deepening their appreciation for its kedusha and its central role in Jewish life. By encountering the people, history, and contemporary realities of Eretz Yisrael, students develop a relationship with the extraordinary gift that our generation has been privileged to access.

We strive to cultivate young Jewish women who are deeply rooted in Torah, connected to ארץ ישראל, appreciative of its central role in Jewish life, and committed to bringing Torah values into every dimension of their lives.

What do you look for in an applicant?

First and foremost, we look for exceptional character.

TEMIMA seeks thoughtful young Jewish women who are sincerely striving to become the very best version of themselves.

Our students value depth without sacrificing warmth, challenge without sacrificing authenticity, and aspiration without sacrificing joy. They are intellectually curious, serious about growth, and eager to contribute positively to the unique seviva that defines the TEMIMA experience.

Because the real product of a seminary is not simply its classes or programs.

    It is its environment.

And when exceptional young Jewish women come together in an atmosphere of aspiration, authenticity, and shared purpose, they inspire one another to become more than they could have become alone.

LEARNING AT TEMIMA

What are classes at TEMIMA like?

TEMIMA's classes are geared toward the highly motivated student, providing intellectual stimulation and incomparable learning, inspiration, and growth.

Students engage in thoughtful Torah learning that encourages them to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and develop greater clarity in Torah, emunah, avodas Hashem, and personal growth.

Classes are taught by hand-picked faculty who always aim to educate and inspire all at once. Carefully selected for both their scholarship and their ability to connect with students, our educators challenge students intellectually while helping them develop a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Torah.

At TEMIMA, learning is not merely about acquiring knowledge. It is about becoming the person you are capable of becoming.

    Are classes discussion-based or text-based?

    Both.

At TEMIMA, textual literacy and intellectual engagement are not competing goals. They complement one another.

Students are challenged to engage deeply with Torah sources while exploring the ideas, questions, and values that emerge from them. Our classes encourage thoughtful discussion, careful analysis, and an appreciation for how timeless Torah ideas illuminate contemporary life.

What is TEMIMA Honors and how does it differ from the other classes?

TEMIMA Honors is designed for students who seek an added measure of challenge and intellectual rigor.

Honors courses move at an accelerated pace and place a greater emphasis on textual analysis, independent thinking, and advanced learning skills. Students in the program are encouraged to maximize the opportunities of the year through enhanced Beis Medrash study and a deeper level of engagement.

Exceptional young Jewish women flourish when they are challenged—and when they learn together, they elevate one another.

How many options are there in each slot?

With multiple offerings throughout the day and a broad range of electives, students enjoy the flexibility to create a schedule that reflects their interests and aspirations.

TEMIMA encourages both breadth and depth, enabling each student to thoughtfully craft a program uniquely her own.

Am I placed in classes or do I get to choose?

    Students design their own schedules.

Every student receives guidance and support, but ultimately has the opportunity to create a program that reflects her interests, strengths, and goals.

Because no two journeys of growth are exactly the same.

    How many classes are there?

TEMIMA offers an extensive and ever-expanding range of courses spanning Tanach, Text, Halacha, Hashkafa, Machshava, Jewish History, contemporary issues, leadership, and more.

The challenge is rarely finding enough classes to take.

It is deciding which ones to leave out.

    Are there tests?

TEMIMA's primary focus is meaningful learning, personal growth, and intellectual engagement.

While some classes include formal assessments, papers, projects, or examinations, many do not. Assessment methods vary by course and instructor and are designed to reinforce learning rather than create unnecessary pressure.

Students are encouraged to engage seriously with their studies while maintaining a focus on growth, understanding, and personal development.

    What is the grading policy?

Students receive grades based on a combination of attendance, participation, assignments, projects, and overall engagement in their courses.

At TEMIMA, academic evaluation is designed to reflect not only mastery of material but also commitment to the learning process and active involvement in the educational experience.

Official transcripts are distributed at the conclusion of the academic year.

What kind of books should students bring?

Because sefarim are readily available in Israel and luggage space is often limited, we generally do not recommend bringing an extensive library from home.

That said, many students enjoy bringing a favorite siddur, Chumash, or sefer that has personal meaning to them.

For students interested in bringing core learning materials, we recommend:

    • Tanach
    • Chumash with Rashi (preferably Mikraot Gedolot)
    • Siddur for weekdays and Shabbos
    • Machzorim for the Yamim Noraim

Additional sefarim can easily be purchased in Israel throughout the year.

How many college credits can students receive?

A year at TEMIMA represents a significant academic undertaking and may qualify students for substantial college credit.

The exact number of credits awarded depends on the policies of each individual college or university. Many institutions, including Stern College, Touro University, and others, have historically recognized coursework completed during a year of study in Israel.

Families are encouraged to speak directly with their college or university to determine transfer credit eligibility and requirements.

LIFE IN ISRAEL

Tell us about the Tiyulim and Yemei Eretz Yisrael.

A connection to Eretz Yisrael is an essential part of the TEMIMA mission.

Throughout the year, students participate in exciting day trips and overnight tiyulim across the country, exploring the landscapes, history, people, and stories that have shaped the Jewish nation for thousands of years.

These experiences are not simply tours. They are opportunities to deepen one's understanding of Torah through the Land where so much of Jewish history unfolded. With Tanach in hand, students experience the powerful intersection of the past, present, and future of Eretz Yisrael.

A particularly unique component of the TEMIMA experience is our monthly ימי ארץ ישראל. These specialized days of learning invite students to study the Torah, historical significance, and contemporary relevance of specific locations throughout Eretz Yisrael. The learning is then brought to life as students travel to those very places, allowing them to walk in the footsteps of Tanach, Jewish history, and the generations that came before them.

The result is not merely knowledge of Israel. It is connection to Israel.

Are there opportunities for leadership, STEM, and community involvement?

Yes. TEMIMA believes that Torah growth extends far beyond the walls of the Beis Medrash.

Students have opportunities to participate in leadership development, meaningful chessed initiatives, community engagement, and our TEMIMA STEM Innovation program, where students explore the worlds of science, medicine, technology, and leadership through the lens of Torah.

These experiences help students recognize Hashem's wisdom and purpose in every aspect of life while developing the confidence and skills to make a meaningful impact on the world around them.

How often does TEMIMA go on tiyulim?

    Frequently.

Through our monthly ימי ארץ ישראל, Shabbatonim, and tiyulim throughout the year, students experience the Torah they learn coming to life in the landscapes, history, and people of Eretz Yisrael.

Our goal is not merely to visit the Land, but to cultivate a lifelong relationship with its kedusha and an appreciation for its central place in Jewish life.

STUDENT LIFE & SUPPORT

How will my daughter be cared for while she is away from home?

At TEMIMA, students are not simply enrolled. They are known.

Parents can feel confident knowing that their daughters are in a seminary that sees each student like family. In fact, that is one of the signature experiences of TEMIMA.

Our faculty, staff, and administration are deeply invested in each student's growth and well-being. Students know they have trusted adults they can turn to for guidance, support, encouragement, and perspective throughout the year.

The result is an environment where students feel genuinely cared for, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Does TEMIMA provide meals for students?

Absolutely. TEMIMA provides students with nutritious, balanced meals anytime that class and school are in session.

We understand that healthy eating contributes to healthy growth, and we strive to provide a variety of wholesome options that meet the needs of our students while creating an enjoyable dining experience.

    What is the curfew policy?

At TEMIMA, student safety and responsibility are taken seriously.

The nightly curfew is 11:15 PM, and all students are expected to be present in the building by that time. Students are also required to check in with dorm staff each evening. Motzaei Shabbos curfew follows the same policy unless otherwise communicated.

These guidelines help create a safe, structured, and supportive environment that allows students to enjoy independence while maintaining accountability and responsibility.

What is the TEMIMA dress code?

TEMIMA's dress code reflects our commitment to dignity, refinement, and self-respect.

Our standards are guided by halacha and by the understanding that external appearance can express inner values. We strive to cultivate an atmosphere that is elevated, wholesome, and conducive to serious growth, while encouraging each student to present herself with grace, confidence, and good judgment.

    When can parents come visit?

We are always delighted when parents visit their daughters during the year. A student's growth is strongest when families and educators work together, and we welcome the opportunity to share the TEMIMA experience with parents.

Visitors are encouraged to attend shiurim, special programs, and school events whenever possible. Meeting faculty, experiencing the learning environment, and seeing TEMIMA firsthand often provides meaningful insight into the transformative growth taking place throughout the year.

At TEMIMA, parents are valued partners in the educational journey, and we look forward to welcoming them to our seminary.
